As we age, our faces begin to lose shape. In the quest to eradicate
the signs of aging, patients continue to demand better results with
less recovery time. Recent advances in technology aim to meet those
demands, giving physicians and patients many options for facial
augmentation. The products mentioned represent a partial
listing of injectables receiving ongoing attention, and give
patients the chance to look as young as they feel.
The Perfect Lips
Not everyone is blessed with perfect lips that last a lifetime. Have
you taken a look at your lips lately? Have you noticed that your
lips are smaller, your cupid's bow is gone, your upper lip
disappears when you smile, or your smile turns down?
Lip enhancement is an art. There is definitely a science to it, but
the aesthetic side is just as important. Lips have to be symmetrical
and proportional with the features of the face. Everyone has a
different look. Not everyone wants or needs the lips of Angelina
Jolie. The art of lip enhancement is in creating lips to fit one's
face and personality.
Both males and females are taking advantage of this procedure to
give them fuller and more defined lips.
These are a few of the components of lip enhancement:
Philtral Columns
These two vertical lines that project upward from the cupid's bow tend to
flatten or disappear with age. Filler is placed very superficially in the
columns leaving the depressed area above the cupid's bow.
Vermillion Border
This is the lip border that defines the shape of your lips. The vermillion
border flattens with age. Fill can be injected to re-create this roll.
Cupid's Bow
This area in the middle of the upper lip straightens with age as well.
Carefully placed filler can restore the youthful look of the cupid's bow.
Outside Corner of Lips
Over time, the fat at the corner of the lips disappears and the depressor
angularis oris, the muscle that runs from the corner of the lips to the jawbone,
tightens, resulting in the downward look. This area can be addressed with
filler.
Lip Volume
An attractive bottom lip has a subtle symmetric fullness on both sides. The
upper lip should comprise 40% and the lower lip 60% of the total volume with the
greatest volume more toward the center of the lip to give that pouty look.
Filling the lip also results in a smoother texture.
