A Gentle Laser
Treatment for Wrinkles and Sun Damage
Portrait® skin regeneration is unlike any other treatment available
today. It is not a laser, radio frequency, or light-based treatment. It
is a completely new plasma energy technology that works both on and
below the surface of the skin to modify the skin’s architecture so that
new collagen is generated.
Rhytec Portrait® is effective in reducing the look of fine lines and deep
wrinkles, treating sun-damaged skin, improving skin tone and texture,
improving acne scars* and tightening skin. It works on a variety of skin
types.
During the short procedure, Portrait® transfers plasma energy to the
treated area without direct contact to the skin. This technique
preserves the skin’s outer layers which act as a protective dressing
until new skin regenerates. Downtime is minimal and clinical studies
show that the improvements you see following your treatment will become
even more dramatic over time.
What is Portrait enhanced skin rejuvenation?
The medical community has been using plasmas – highly charged
ionized gas – for many years. Rhytec, a world leader in energy-based
technologies, has successfully translated this revolutionary
technology to the specialties of dermatology and cosmetic surgery.
Known as Portrait®, the Plasma Skin Regeneration procedure is
unparalleled for wrinkle reduction, tightening, and improvement in
skin tone and texture. No other procedure treats more conditions at
the same time — all of which are achieved with a low risk profile in
which your own skin acts as a natural biological dressing during the
healing process.
Portrait® works by delivering millisecond pulses of nitrogen-based
plasma to the skin’s surface via the system’s novel hand piece.
Nitrogen is a colorless, odorless gaseous element that is part of
all living tissues and makes up 80% of the atmosphere. When
introduced to ultra-high frequency energy, the nitrogen is converted
into a highly energized state, or plasma. From the hand piece, the
plasma transfers its energy onto the skin without any direct
contact, causing a very controlled heating of tissue and a unique
thermal profile with no charring. Unlike other skin-rejuvenation
treatments, Portrait® leaves the skin surface intact. It works via
an entirely different mode of action that is effective both at and
below the skin’s surface. It stimulates the body to regenerate the
damaged structural elements of the skin in a way that other
technologies and treatments cannot. The results seen following
treatment get better over time, with clinical studies showing
continuing improvement a year later — a unique and significant
advantage that distinguishes Portrait® from all other skin
treatments.
Who is an appropriate candidate for this treatment?
There are many ideal candidates for Portrait®, for example:
Individuals seeking to repair photo-damage and improve the
appearance of age spots, or hyperpigmentation
Individuals seeking to remove pre-cancerous lesions
Individuals considering laser surgery, a face lift and/or plastic
surgery
Individuals wanting to reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep
wrinkles
Individuals wanting to tighten the skin Individuals wanting to
improve the overall skin tone and texture to recapture a youthful skin
quality they have not enjoyed for years
Individuals wanting to reduce acne scarring
What can I expect during a treatment?
Before treatment, a cool gel is applied in a thin layer over the
treatment area. The cooled window of the laser is then placed upon
the skin. When the energy is applied it feels a bit like a warm
pulse against the skin.
Is the treatment of painful?
Most patients feel minimal discomfort during the procedure. If
necessary, a topical anesthetic can be applied to make the
treatments more comfortable.
What can I expect following the treatment?
Following the treatment it will be recommended that you wear a
minimum of a 45 SPF sunscreen daily. Make-up can be applied
immediately after treatment and you can resume normal activities.
Many patients scheduled their treatments over lunch and return to
work right after. There may be some slight redness or swelling for a
few hours or, on rare occasions, a few days.
Darker pigments and freckles may get darker after the initial
treatment and flake off in a few days.
Because the lasers reduced wrinkles by encouraging new collagen
growth, wrinkled improvement is gradual. At the time of your third
treatment, 9 to 12 weeks after your initial treatments, you may
begin to see wrinkle improvement. Wrinkle improvement will be
further evidenced several months after treatment completed.
How long to treatments take?
Portrait® Plasma skin rejuvenation can be used to treat an entire
face or a specific area. Treatment for an entire face can take as
little as 20 minutes; a regional treatment can be as short as 10 –
15 minutes. Shortly after, you will see improvements in your skin
texture and tone and diminished wrinkles giving you a new, more
vibrant and youthful appearance. Over time you will see continuing
improvement.
How long do the effects last?
Aging is progressive. The wrinkles and sun damage that are visible
today were often caused years before. Care should be taken to wear
sun block so no new sun damage can occur. Dr. Byrd recommends a
consultation with her nurse regarding specific skin care treatments
to provide continued improvement. Additionally, new wrinkles cannot
necessarily be stopped from appearing. However, the laser's
encouragement of new collagen growth should help slow the appearance
of new wrinkles. It is recommended that one to two sessions be
done on an annual basis for maintenance.
Why should I choose Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation?
Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation is a wonderful, cost-effective
alternative for patients who want a more youthful appearance without
needles, cosmetic surgery or weeks of recovery time.
